Text Box: We are a group of individuals from the Carmel community who work to improve our community--both locally and throughout the world--by performing service projects and fundraising.
We are a service club open to anyone in the community 18 years of age or over.
We strive to make service opportunities available to those with busy work and family schedules and all activities are family friendly.
The Carmel Lions Club was chartered in 1936 by a small group of forward-thinking leaders to serve and improve the Carmel community.  The population of Carmel at that time was under 800.
The Carmel Lions Club has grown with Carmel. We are over 85 members strong and our Club has consistently been a top Club in the State of Indiana and the United States.
Our members, both men and women, both young and older, come from all walks of life and a multitude of professions.  Some members are Carmel natives while many other members are from throughout the United States and around the world.
The Carmel Lions Club is well known for our August fish fry.  This event was first held in 1939 and is the longest-running community event in Carmel.  It continues to be a favorite in the community.
Lions Clubs were started in 1917 by Chicago businessman Melvin Jones when he told his business club they should reach beyond business issues and address the betterment of their communities and the world.
In 1925, famed crusader for the blind Helen Keller challenged the Lions to be "'Knights of the Blind' in this crusade against darkness".  Ever since, the Lions have worked to improve the lives of the sight impaired.
Today, there are over 1.3 million Lions in 45,000 clubs in over 200 countries.  The Lions Club is the only international service organization to be allowed to organize inside China.
Lions Club International Foundation has raised over $200 million to treat and prevent blindness in third world countries as part of Operation SightFirst II.
